Many older homes still have galvanized pipes. We used to think that didn’t rust. But they do – from the inside out!
Your older galvanized pipes can build rust inside (like clogged arteries!) reducing the flow, and eventually clogging up altogether.
There really is no way to clean out a rust blockage. What we can do is to remove the rusted piece of pipe with an ‘easy-out’ pipe extractor tool and replace it. You can use either copper or plastic pipe.

You can greatly reduce the risk of fire or explosion in the event of an earthquake by simply strapping your water heater to the wall, and fitting it with a flexible gas supply line.
Also, if you have flexible (corrugated) copper water connectors, you can use your water heater as a protected source of fresh water in the event of a disruption in municipal water supply. A typical water heater usually has more than 30 gallons of fresh water.

Solar Water Heaters
Solar water heaters—also called solar domestic hot water systems—can be a cost-effective way to generate hot water for your home. They can be used in any climate, and the fuel they use—sunshine—is free.
Solar water heating systems include storage tanks and solar collectors. There are two types of solar water heating systems: active, which have circulating pumps and controls, and passive, which don’t.
Most solar water heaters require a well-insulated storage tank. Solar storage tanks have an additional outlet and inlet connected to and from the collector. In two-tank systems, the solar water heater preheats water before it enters the conventional water heater. In one-tank systems, the back-up heater is combined with the solar storage in one tank.
